Morphology and Anatomy:
- Characterized by large metacorpus (median bulb)
- Esophageal glands usually not enclosed in a bulb (overlapping).
- Dorsal esophageal gland opens into lumen of esophagus in metacorpus, just
anterior to the pump chamber.
- Subventral esophageal glands open into lumen of esophagus in metacorpus,
posterior to the pump chamber.
- Males have caudal papillae.
- Males in Aphelenchoidinae generally do not have caudal alae, or have very small alae.
- Often, but not exclusively, associated with ferns, gymnosperms, and monocotyledons.
